Pierce the Veil: Post-Hardcore Power with Emotional Punch

Pierce the Veil is a high-energy post-hardcore band known for their explosive sound, emotionally charged lyrics, and loyal fanbase. Blending elements of punk, metal, and emo with intricate musicianship, the band has become one of the leading names in the alternative rock scene since the late 2000s.

The band was formed in San Diego, California, in 2006 by brothers Vic Fuentes (lead vocals, rhythm guitar) and Mike Fuentes (drums) following the disbandment of their previous group, Before Today. Soon after, they were joined by Tony Perry (lead guitar) and Jaime Preciado (bass), forming the classic Pierce the Veil lineup. The chemistry between the four musicians quickly became apparent, and their unique sound began to take shape—an intense mix of technical guitar work, passionate vocals, and deeply personal songwriting.

Their debut album, A Flair for the Dramatic (2007), introduced them to the post-hardcore scene with songs that combined theatrical flair with raw emotion. However, it was their second album, Selfish Machines (2010), that gained them a broader audience, thanks to tracks like:

  • “Caraphernelia” – A fan favorite featuring guest vocals from Jeremy McKinnon of A Day to Remember.
  • “Bulletproof Love” – A heartfelt anthem showcasing the band’s melodic side.

In 2012, Pierce the Veil released their breakthrough album, Collide with the Sky. The record catapulted them to the forefront of the genre, powered by the massive single “King for a Day” featuring Kellin Quinn of Sleeping with Sirens. The song became a defining track for the scene, with its explosive energy, unforgettable hook, and themes of rebellion and personal empowerment. Other hits from the album include:

  • “Bulls in the Bronx”
  • “Hell Above”

Collide with the Sky earned critical acclaim and charted in the top 20 on the Billboard 200, marking a major milestone in the band’s career.

Their next album, Misadventures (2016), took four years to complete and saw the band experimenting with more refined production and broader influences. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 and featured tracks like:

  • “Texas Is Forever”
  • “Circles” – Inspired by the 2015 Paris attacks, addressing themes of fear and survival.

After a long hiatus and lineup changes—including the departure of drummer Mike Fuentes in 2017—Pierce the Veil returned in 2023 with The Jaws of Life, a comeback album that showed their evolution as artists while retaining the intensity and vulnerability fans love.

Known for their electrifying live shows, passionate fan community, and willingness to tackle themes like mental health, heartbreak, and resilience, Pierce the Veil has carved out a lasting legacy in the post-hardcore and emo world.

With Vic Fuentes at the creative helm, and a renewed energy in their recent work, Pierce the Veil continues to inspire a new generation of fans—proving that raw emotion, musical complexity, and authenticity never go out of style.
