Parcels: Disco-Funk Revivalists with a Modern Twist
Parcels is an Australian electro-pop and funk band known for their sleek, retro-inspired sound that fuses elements of disco, funk, soft rock, and electronic music. With their sharp style, smooth harmonies, and meticulously crafted grooves, Parcels has gained international acclaim for bringing vintage sounds into the 21st century.
The band was formed in 2014 in Byron Bay, New South Wales, by five friends: Louie Swain (keyboards), Patrick Hetherington (keyboards, vocals), Noah Hill (bass), Anatole “Toto” Serret (drums), and Jules Crommelin (guitar, vocals). All of them grew up playing music together in different bands and quickly found chemistry as a group. Seeking a broader artistic environment, they relocated to Berlin, Germany—a city known for its vibrant music and arts scene.
Parcels made an immediate impression with their clean aesthetic, tight musicianship, and infectious live performances. Their sound, heavily influenced by 1970s disco, funk, and soft rock (think Daft Punk meets the Bee Gees meets Steely Dan), was both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. In 2017, Parcels collaborated with none other than Daft Punk on the track “Overnight”, which helped catapult them into the global spotlight. The song, co-written and co-produced by the legendary French duo, was the only official Daft Punk collaboration released after Random Access Memories (2013), making it a significant moment for both groups. “Overnight” blended funk guitars, dreamy synths, and laid-back grooves, becoming a fan favorite and streaming hit.
